SrI:

Dear BhakthAs :

After Thirumanjanam at Thiru Naagai , there was a brief
window of opportunity to visit nearby ThirukkaNNangudi
and be back for the ThirukkalyANa PrasAdhams . Off we
went in the Midday heat to ThirukkaNNangudi , a sleepy
village nestled amidst the paddy fields .

Sthala VisEsham
******************
The dhivya Dampathi's names are Sri Aravindhavalli
SamEtha Sri DhAmOdhara NaarAyaNa PerumAL.
The vimAnam is known as UthphalAvadhAkam .
PushkaRaNi is Nithya(SravaNa ) PushkaraNi.
On the South Eastern bank of the SravaNa PushkaraNi ,
there is a Moolavar known as VeeRiruntha PerumAL ,
who is an ancient ( Pazhaya) PerumAl of this dhivya dEsam .

This is one of the Pancha KrishNa kshEthrams among
the 108 dhivya dEsams ; the other four are
ThirukkaNNapuram , ThirukkaNNamangai ,
Thiru Kapisthalam and ThirukkOvalUr .

This dhivya dEsam is also revered as Pancha Bhadhra
or a dhivya dEsam having Five auspicousness : River ,
forest , agrahAram , temple and PushkaraNi .

This sthalam is also known as the Pancha NaarAyaNa
Sthalam . The five NaarAyaNa sthalams in and around
this dhivya dEsams are:

1. Sri Ananatha NaarAyaNan in the south at AabharaNa dhAri.
2. Sri Varada NaarAyaNan at Periya AalatthUr ( South West)
3. Sri Deva NaarAyaNan at ThEvUr
4. Sri Yaadhava NaarAyaNan at KeevaLUr
5. Sri DaamOdhara NaarAyaNan at ThirukkaNNangudi.

AarAdhana Kramam & MangaLAsAsanam
********************************************
ThirukkaNNangudi follows the VaikhAnasa Aagamam .
This KshEthram has recieved MangaLAsAsanam from
Thirumangai with ten Paasurams . "OorAkk- kiNaRu ,
uRangAp-puLi , thErA Vazhakku , ThirukkaNnangudi "
is the proverb associated with this dhivya dEsam .

DhyAna slOkam
*****************
Garuda PurANam gives us the dhyAna slOkam :

 "uthpalAvathakE dhivyE vimAnE KamalApathim
vandhE Maadara mukthaisthu vanthitham Loka Naayakam "

PerumAl is prathyaksham to Sage Maadarar and
three other Munivars here .

Sthala Vruksham/ Holy tree inside the temple
***********************************************
Sthala Vruksham here is MangaLa Mahizha maram (VakuLam),
the flowers of which are dear to Swamy NammAzhwAr.
This Mahizha Maram is known as "KaayA Mahizh " since
this tree flowers and produces fruits but the seeds from
the tree will not lead to new trees . Under this Mahizham tree
rested Thirumangai during his journey to ThirunAgai
to take control of the golden BuddhA statue at
the Buddha VihAram . Manthra Japam under this
Mahizha Maram will multiply the fruits of that Japam .
The watering of the Mahizha Maram with the waters of
SravaNa Pushkarani theerttham will yield great puNyams .
The four Rishis ( Maadarar , Gouthamar , Bhrugu and Chaithyar)
did severe penance under this tree about Sreeman NaarAyaNan
and were blessed to have Him appear before them as
DhAmOdhara NaarAyaNan on a Panguni RohiNi dinam.

Thirumangai Mannan's Ten Paasurams
*****************************************
The ten Paasurams of Thirumangai end with the salutation:
" ThirukkaNNankudiyuL NinRAnE " .

First Paasuram
******************
In the first Paasuram , Thirumangai( Kaliyan) visualizes
the Lord of this dhivya dEsam (DhAmOdara NaarAyaNan)
as the PadhmanAbhan resting on top of the Milky ocean
and salutes Him as " ShyAma Maa mEni , Yenn Talaivan "
Kaliyan observes the Vaidhika Sri of the dhivya dEsam and pays
tribute to the VaishNavAs , who are experts in the four Vedams
and tend the three types of fires to perform the Yaj~nams .

Second Paasuram
********************
Here , Kaliyan instructs us that ThirukkaNNangudi KaNNan
is the same one , who saved the GajEndhran from the cruel jaws
of the crocodile ( " thuvaLa mEl vanthu thOnRi vann mudhalai
thuNipadac-chudupadai turanthOn ") . The natural beauty of
this dhivya dEsam with many kinds of lotus flowers and banana
trees are described by Kaliyan in this Paasuram .

Third Paasuram:
********************
Here , Kaliyan reveals to us that ThirukkaNNngudi KaNNan
is the One , who took MathsyAvathAram to retrieve the VedAs
at one time , when deluge prevailed ( " MeenuruvAhi viripunal
variya kattoLithOn ") .Kaliyan decribes the fragrant scent from
Punnai , Mallikai , Mouaal pushpams spreading in all directions
at this dhivya dEsam .

Fourth Paasuram
******************
In this Paasuram , Kaliyan visualizes DhAmOdhara NaarAyaNan
as the Aadhi VarAhan , who rescued BhUmi Devi from the depth
of the oceans ( " PanRiyAi anRu Par MahaL payali theertthavan
Panchavar pAkan " ) . Kaliyan notes here the tall ramparts
and upparikais of this affluent dhivya dEsam .

Fifth Paasuram
****************
The dhyAnam and visualization(SaakshAthkAram ) of
Kaliyan shifts now to Thrivikrama svaroopam of this
dhivya dEsa EmperumAn ( " Mannavan periya vELviyi
kuRaLAi moovadi neerodum koNDu , pinnum yEzhulahum
YeeradiyAhap-perumdisai adangida nimirnthOn " ).

Sixth Paasuram
*****************
Here , DhAmOdhara NaarAyaNan presents Himself as
ParasurAman before Kaliyan to recieve his mangaLAsAsanam :

" Mazhuvinaal avani arasai moovezhukaal maNi mudi podi
padutthu uthira , kuzhuvuvAr punaluL kuLitthu venkOpam
   tavirthavan ......ThirukkaNNangudiyuL ninRAnE "

Seventh Paasuram
********************
Here , Kaliyan's bhAgyam is to have the Sevai of the Lord
of this dhivya dEsam as Valvili Raaman , who cut off the ten
arrogant heads of RaavaNan with His KodhaNdam :

" ilankayak-kOnai bhAnu nEr saratthAl panamkani pOlap-
   parumudiyuthira vill vaLaitthOn ...ThirukkaNnangudiyuL
   ninRAnE " ).

Eighth and ninth Paasurams
*******************************
These two paasurams celebrate ThirukkaNNangudi
EmperumAn as PaaNdava DhUthan and PaarTasArathy .
This being KrishNa kshEthram , two paasurams among
ten are devoted to KrishNAvathAran by Kaliyan .

The eighth pasuram visualizes KaNnapirAn arriving at
DuryOdhanan's court as the ambasaddor for PaaNDavAs
and seating Himself majestically to negotiate a deal to
avoid the MahA Bhaaratha war : " aravu neeL kodiyOn
avaiuL aasanatthai anjidAthE idavatharkkup-
periya MaamEniyaNda mooduruvap-perumdisai
adangida nimirnthOn " . Our Lord arrived at the court
of evil minded DuryOdhanan with the snake as his emblem
in his flag and spread Himself in a seat that stretched
across directions to foil the cunning plans of DuryOdhanan.

In the ninth Paasuram , Kaliyan pays tribute to GeethAchAryan ,
who served as the charioteer (Saarathy ) for Arjunan to
engage in Bharathap-pOrr to reduce the burden of BhUmi dEvi and
reestablish dharmam .

Tenth Pasuram :
****************
This is the Phala sruthi Paasuram that pays tribute to RaamAvathAram ,
where the Lord invaded the kingdom of RaavaNan with the army of
monkeys and bears to destroy the dushtan RaavaNan and his retinue:

" Perum padyodum senRu , silayinAl Ilankai theeyezhac-cheRRa
ThirukkaNnangudiyuL ninRAnai ( paRRiya ) Kaliyan vaayolikaL
  -- -- vallavarkkillai nalkuravE " .

Kaliyan assures us that those who recite his ten paasurams on
DhAmOdhara NaarAyaNan of ThirukkaNNngudi and comprehend
the meanings of these paasurams will never suffer from poverty of
any kind .

Next , we will cover the visit to ThirukkOshtiyUr
dhivya dEsam .
