We asked people to define a SNS

A SNS is:

  • Profile based, transverable, allow comments on other profiles
  • A virtual space where the main purpose is to encourage and facilitate social representation, connections and interaction within the boundaries and limitations of the space.
  • Profie, connections, norms.
  • Connect people using some attributes.
  • Online identity representation with connections to others
  • A SNS is a website whose primary purpose is to communicate and represent an affiliation network.
  • Allows representation of many-faceted seld, including connections to others.
  • Users create some type of self-representation, users can make explicit links to each other, to the person - no to an artifact created by the person.
  • At least partially structured, linking to/with other profies, conteact supported, persisitent, allows some sort of communication within site/tool.
  • A SNS makes a social network visible and explicit.
  • A def must include critical attrbutes and variable attributes.
  • Placeful, use real world connections, a representation of self, sustained presence.
  • SNS include profile, commentary, shares system of communication, collaboration.
  • Free, global, public, profile-driven site where people connect to each others around common interests or hobbies.
  • A site that allows users to create online identities through profiles containing content such as pictures, written self-descriptions, lists of interests, and friend lists.
