Melissa when 4.

Melissa Manning

Melissa has always been a kind person, with exceptionally sound judgment and strong loyalties to here friends and family. In short, she is the kind of person that you want your child to become.

She is a hard worker, an avid reader (when she gets the chance). She grew up loving horses, riding when she was six years old in Vermont. She likes basketball (she grew up in North Carolina!) and she loves to watch the Atlanta Braves.

Unlike either of her parents, who hate doctors, she has always been fascinated with medicine and science and how living things get along in the world.

These photos represent a few of the thousands of pictures that her mother and I have. I adore this one from kindergarden. She hates it. When she graduated from preschool, her teacher asked the students to recite the three things that they had learned in the two years at the school. In unison, the students repeated three of the most important lessons of life: "I am loveable. I am capable. And always wear your seatbelts." Kind, caring, and practical. That's our girl!

MS&K 4th grade.Melissa and her nextdoor neighbors Shana and Kelly Horton, fourth grade. Kelly now goes to Texas A&M, as does Melissa, where she is majoring in pre-med. Shana attends the University of Texas and is in their advanced liberal arts honors program called Plan II.

Sabina Ludy and Melissa as graduating seniors from Chapel Hill High, 1996.Sabina Ludy and M. For two years, Sabina and Melissa rode to the high school together, both having early morning classes (starting at 7.40). Sabina got her driver's liscence first so she often provided the independence for the two of them. Since Sabina's father owned a tree service in Chapel Hill, Melissa and Sabina could be seen driving around town in a giant dump truck. Until the brakes gave out on it!
Sabina attends Gustavus Aldolphus College in Minnesota where she majors in pre-pharmacy.
