Lately I’ve been trying to explode the rectangle to which the moving image is usually confined. This has led me to designing video for live theater and dance, and to creating installations.
As a filmmaker and animator I have exhibited my work from Sundance to PBS National, by way of Mumbai, Göteborg, Casablanca, and many others. I’ve won a number of “best of” awards and have received grants from the Independent Television Service, Latino Public Broadcasting, and the Kauffman Foundation.
I am a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I teach media production. Fluent in French and Italian, I can also get by in Spanish. I have a giant fig tree and I also try to garden – much more difficult than making art, because, from the rankest of weeds to the sweetest of melons, I really can’t control anything at all.
