So Long...PoliticsNow is offline. This web site, focused on politics and policy and sponsored by ABC News, National Journal Inc., and The Washington Post Company, ceased publication on Tuesday, March 4, 1997. Reflecting the changing nature of the Web, the partners decided to focus their political coverage on their individual online initiatives. The cutting edge successes of PoliticsNow will enable each partner to improve and perfect its own online ventures. "PoliticsNow fulfilled the special needs of an election year with journalistic skill and a unique sense of style," said Marc Teren, president of Digital Ink Co., the digital media and electronic information services subsidiary of The Washington Post Company. "We will now concentrate our political coverage on washingtonpost.com, the Web site we launched last year." "We are extremely proud of the standards PoliticsNow has set for democracy on the Web," said John Fox Sullivan, president and publisher of National Journal Inc. "We will apply the lessons learned to a new site, NationalJournal.com, designed for our traditional audience of political decision-makers and activists in Washington and throughout the country." "PoliticsNow was a unique editorial collaboration that provided its users with a rich array of print, video, and audio reports," said Bill Abrams, vice president of business development, ABC News. "ABC News is aggressively developing other means for the online community to access our worldwide news-gathering resources." ABC News is a division of ABC, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. ABC is composed of the ABC Television Network, owned television and radio stations and radio networks, cable programming services, international ventures, publishing, online program services, and domestic television syndication.
