Special Characteristics:
  • Monaco, Belgium and Spain are the only members of the EMU to have officially issued two standard series of Euro coins.
  • Vatican City is the only member of the EMU to have officially issued three standard series of Euro coins.
  • Finland issued two amendments to their initial series of Euro coins.
  • Belgium issued one amendment to their second standard series of Euro coins.
  • On 1 January 2007, Slovenia began using the Euro as its currency.
  • On 1 January 2008, Cyprus and Malta began using the Euro as its currency.
  • On 1 January 2009, Slovakia began using the Euro as its currency.
  • Current ERMII members are Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
  • The common side (obverse) of the 1 and 2 Euro coins and the 10, 20 and 50 euro cent coins changed on 1 January 2008 for Austria, Italy, Portugal, Spain, San Marino and Vatican City. The obverse of Euro coins changed for the remaining Member States of the EMU on 1 January 2007. Slovenia began issuing Euro coins on 1 January 2007 with the new obverse as did Cyprus and Malta on 1 January 2008.
