I think that the question is about the last post in this thread, that says that Andorra talks with the ECB will restart in February 2009. Any new development in this area?

Thanks,
Miguel

Andorra has been (and at present still is) negociating with the European Commission, so far without any results at all. Main problem is that Andorra, unlike Monaco San Marino and Vatican City, has no history at all as a coin-issuing nation.

Hi dblcala,

If you check the previous post, it seems like Andorra is negotiating with the EU a status similar to Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City; or even maybe thinking about EU membership. If this happens they will be able to mint their own euro coins. I am asking if there is any update on any othese matters, since I have seen nothing in the news or other forums.

Thanks,
Miguel

There is no new news on this subject, but talks are scheduled to resume in February, 2009.

Are there any new developments on this area? Just wondering what is Andorra doing with all this crisis and so many countries trying to enter the Eurozone ...

Thanks,
Miguel

That's only the earliest date and only if the language of the agreement can be spelled out before June 2009. It is possible that this could happen by then, but it is not probable.

I've seen the proposals for designs- most of them have Charlemagne as the main design theme. None of them can be approved until at least an 'agreement of principle' is worked out.

When this happens, the agreement will be unique among the Eurozone members. Since Andorra had no pre-existing arrangement with either France or Spain (as San Marino and Vatican City did with Italy or Monaco with France), they will have to sort of merge with only a portion of the EU.

The parts of the agreement that are rocky at the moment involve euro introduction as a path to EU membership. Andorra would have to join the EU once they adopt the euro.

Andorra is in negotiations with the ECB to use their own euro coins. The talks are being delayed by their banking practices. They were supposed to enter an agreement by 1 Jan 2009, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. At the earliest, it will be 2010.

I personally have not heard anything official. Andorra is looking for a similar deal to Monaco or San Marino for example, but the problem is that they never had an official relationship with either France or Spain before they joined the eurozone. It would be interestign to follow what happen in this topic ...
