As far as I know, it is not possible to pay with euros in TRNC.
See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro#cite_note-4

Thanks for the additional information.

In fact the curreny state in the so called TRNC is difficult to understand.
As TRNC is only recognized by Turkey the euro should be legal tender for the whole island of Cyprus. So the New Turkish Lira is only the de-facto currency in this area.
But anyway "somewhere in Cyprus" is the right answer to question C7.

SME

just to say that if u accept famagusta as a correct answer (its nearby villages because the city itself is a ghost town) where euro is accepted in almost any shop but not officially, then the tourist area in cuba is the correct answer.in fact in occupied cyprus (so called TRNC) any currency is accepted at exchange rate desided by the seller! (sterling pounds, us dollars, euro and before the euro time German mark, cyprus pound). the closest city to delhi in "trnc" is Rizokarpaso (Dipkarpaz) and in the area where cyprus goverment has control is Paralimni.

Miguel, you are right, the Euro is accepted for transactions in some tourist resorts in Cuba including Varadero. But I am not sure if this this can be called legal tender. Is the use of Euro allowed for tourists only? Or for all transactions? Is it officially allowed or only de-facto? It is difficult to find official information about this topic... Do you have more information?

Thanks,
SME

Here is the list of all the correct answers.

As mentioned before 4 questions may have rather ambiguous answers because there is a special situation regarding the legal tender state in Zimbabwe. Due to hyper inflation this state suspended the use of its own currency. The Euro is now one of the currencies which have the status of legal tender. But it is difficult to find official information about the situation regarding currency issues in Zimbabwe so for these 4 questions both possible answers were allowed.

Please also note, that some answers may slightly differ from the ones given by Caffe and the other participants. But it's for fun anyway ;)

A1) Which is the most northern place where the Euro is legal tender?

So Many Euros wrote:For this reason I cannot accept Clipperton island as it is a desert island. On the Kerguelen Islands and Amsterdam island are only research stations, no inhabitants in the proper meaning of the word.

You are right. It was my mistake.
However, it is too sad that those great places are uninhabitated. For example, Clipperton Island would be very very cool place to holiday. :)
I hope I will get there some day. :)

@all

To avoid dealing with different definitions please use this list in order to decide if a city qualifies as town with over a million inhabitants. Thanks!

Um Konfusion wegen der unterschiedlichen veröffentlichten Einwohnerzahlen zu vermeiden, benutzt bitte diese Liste bei der Entscheidung, ob es sich um eine Millionenstadt handelt. Danke!

Illioplius, welcome to this trivia and thanks for your answers :)

I see you did some research in the French oversea areas. That is a good idea to solve this trivia ;)
But the answers are not correct. Please review my definition of place:
place means an regularly inhabited place. So do not search for desert islands or Arctic research stations.

For this reason I cannot accept Clipperton island as it is a desert island. On the Kerguelen Islands and Amsterdam island are only research stations, no inhabitants in the proper meaning of the word.

Now let's have a look at the category B questions. You also did a good job here. But of course we have a definition problem here. Sorry, that is my mistake. I shoud have cleared this point. There so many definitions about city populations. Every list is showing different numbers... So I will clarify the rule: We use the values defined in this list. I have to revise my own answers again  and will then come back to your proposals for solution.

Best regards,
SME

This trivia seems to be more difficult than I thought ;)
To give you some extra motivation I decided to offer a prize for the winner (ie the one who first answers all questions correctly or the one who solves the last remaining unsolved question):
The winner may choose one of the following coins:
1 Euro 2009 San Marino or 2 Euro CC EMU 2009 Cyprus

and to make it a bit easier:
4 questions may have rather ambiguous answers because there is a special situation regarding the legal tender state in one country. For these questions any of the two possible answers will be rated as correct.

Have a lot of fun, viel Spaß beim Raten weiterhin,
SME
