Euro Trivia (905)

Postby theeuro on 26 Jan 2009, 21:51

This week's trivia question involves the nature of designs found on all circulation Euro coins- 2 Euro commemoratives are included, non-circulation collector Euro coins are not included.

Of all Euro designs, which main design themes depict fictional people or objects?

A main design theme is the central element of the coin's design. Words do not count- we're looking for a tally of people and objects.

EXAMPLE:

2_Euro_Commemorative_Design_2005_San_Marino

The 2005 Sammarinese €2 commemorative circulation design would not be counted because the main design theme is a painting of Galileo Galilei and this is not fictional, but real.

20_Cent_French_National_Design

The French €0.20 regular circulation design would be counted because the main design theme is the 'sower', a fictional person.

The answer should be a number (you get a free one from the example above, but be sure to include this in your answer!). Feel free to include a 'proof' or examples of your answer.

Good luck!!

If only people and object are counted, then 9.
(Spanish 2005 €2 CC "Don Quixote", Italian 2005 €2 CC "Europa and Zeus", Greek common €2 "Europa", Slovenian 10 cent "Idea of building of the Slovenian parliament", Slovenian 5 cent* "Sower", French 1, 2 and 5 cents "Marianne" and Italian* €1 "Vitruvian man")

* with these coins I am not sure, because they depict real paintings that portray fictional people.

I think this is disputable... Is Finnish lion fictional? Is Slovak coat of arms fictional? Is globe on Italian 2004 €2 CC fictional? Is boat on Finnish 2007 €2 CC fictonal? I don't know.

Point taken... let me clarify... perhaps 'fictional' is not the right word... I mean depicts something that is not real. The painting depicted in the example San Marino coin is real, because you can find the painting and touch it (well, I'm sure they frown on actually 'touching' the painting, but that is the idea...). Also, pay attention to the descriptions... if it is a reproduction of a painting or a depiction of something that is a painting, this does not count.

Is this trivia question too ambiguous? Should I retract it and try a different one?

OK then. I change my answer to "seven". :)

I think you should not change it. I am curious what other users will say.
If we reach the conclusion that this question was uncertain, maybe you should make next more unambiguous. There's lot of time for many and many trivia questions...

Well, the second trivia question did not go so well. The question is too ambiguous to answer, so I have disqualified it!

The next trivia question will be better!

Well, it depends on how you want to define this question. When I first wrote it, the answer was 9, but the more I thought about it, the more the answer changed.
