Euro Trivia (906)

Postby theeuro on 01 Feb 2009, 22:42

After the previous question was poorly written, I have come up with a good one for this week (it's a two-part question)!

Of all circulation Euro coins, including 2 Euro commemorative issues:

How many languages are represented on all Euro circulation coins, AND What are they?

Good luck!

That is an interesting question. And as MdV called it "a good one", I think it is quite tricky.

I could imagine that on the Austrian 2€ CC "50th anniversary of the Austrian State Treaty" there is someting in Russian on the seal next to Molotow's signature. So is there anyone with a good magnifying glass to check it out :)

I says 17 (but I might be wrong, what I am going to say needs to be verified). The word "Finland" in the Finnish 2 euro commemorative coins 2005 (United Nations), 2007 (Treaty of Rome) and 2009 (10 years of the Euro) is not supposed to be English, but Swedish, since Swedish is also an official language in Finland. I know this as fact for the Finnish collectors coins, almost all coins that have some form of text have it in both Finnish and Swedish.

Also, I have a question, in the Belgian coins of 2007, 2008 and 2009, I hope the word Belgium is written Dutch, French and German (and not Flemish, or else it may count as one more).

Thanks,

I'll save you with a clue... Flemish is not one of the languages...

Then I vote 17 by adding Swedish to the list of Illioplius ...

NumisMatix,

Aren't you repeating German and Dutch? If removing duplicates is 17 ...

Thanks,
Miguel

Oh, you are absolutely right! :D
I forgot it... :)

Numismatix repeated German, Dutch and French and forgot Maltese.

I don't think so.

Sorry people., I botched it! (comes from doing two things at once).

Here's my revised list:

BE 2008CC English French German Dutch (4)
BE 2007CC Latin (1)
Cyprus 2008 €2 Turkish Greek (2)
FI 1999 €2 edge Finish Swedish (2)
Ireland €2CC Celtic (1)
I 2005 €2CC Italian (1)
L 2002 €2 Letzebuergisch (1)
Malta 2008 €2 Malteze (1)
P 2007 €2CC Portugese (1)
Slovakia 2009 €2 Slovak (1)
Slovenia 2007 €2 Slovenian (1)
Es 1999 €2 Spanish (1)
=17 languages on 12 coins

I left out Malteze on purpose because I felt the word 'Malta' is actually English.
I hope no Flemish readers are offended that we are calling their language Dutch!

Nope -- 17. The Austrian State Treaty coin includes the signatures of two Soviets, and they're logically in Russian. ;)
