Previous 2 Euro design

Postby theeuro on 07 Sep 2008, 23:20

In June 2008, Latvia redesigned the future 2 Euro coin. Due in part to interference with the outer ring EU stars on the coin, the ECB rejected the design. Latvia's 1 Euro coin design was adapted for the 2 Euro coin.

This is the original 2 Euro design, submitted by Latvia in May 2005:

I read about that and was disappointed. I really like that idea with previous €2 design - that where is Freedom Monument in Riga and three stars. The shouldn't rejected it. Many Euro coins' designes interfere with it's outer ring (i.e. French).

More specifically, the design interfered with the 12o'clock star in the outer ring. I saw at least a dozen refitted designs to try and keep the Freedom Monument. Nothing really worked.

I wish I could. Perhaps after Latvia has adopted the Euro.

PS- Sorry for the very late reply!

This is a wonderful design! So fun! Really what a great play and a nice statement too. I want to meet the fools who get paid to determine what is acceptable beauty and what is not. They could use a good laugh in the face.
