WARSAW, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Poland's government will press ahead with its plan to adopt the euro in 2012 even without opposition backing in parliament, Deputy Finance Minister Ludwik Kotecki said on Thursday.
The government needs the support of at least some members of the conservative main opposition party in order to amend Poland's constitution, a key legal step before euro adoption. The opposition has so far refused to back the euro plan.
"We are carrying out the euro road map regardless of whether the opposition conservatives agree to the needed constitutional changes or not," Kotecki said, adding that Poland would soon start talks with the EU on joining the European Exchange Rate (ERM-2) currency grid.
