Storing the coins ...

Postby Miguel.mateo on 29 Jan 2009, 01:48

Hi there,

what does people do to store and preserve their euro coins? Can any one please give me ideas? I am interested in some sort of display boxes, but I am open to catalogues, books ... etc.

Thanks in advance,
Miguel

I have common album (someting like this) with plastic pages for coins (as seen here). I use it for €2 CC and some common issue national euro coins (as well as not euro coins).
In past I used this eurocollector and it is almost full.

I do not have any special euro-cases, although I probably should...

I'm not *very* familiar with the art of coin collecting, but I do know that coins should not be stored in a certain type of plastic, because over time as the plastic decomposes, it releases a type of gas that interacts with the coin and causes some sort of major decrease in value and quality. The same is true of certain paper or cardboard holders.

If this is already known, please ignore... I feel like I'm a bit out of my league here, but I know this due to the fact that I have to regularly store coins.

Otherwise... I hope this helped a little.

Illioplius,

Can you send me a PM with a link to teh page where those albums can be bought? I want to take a look at it.

MdV,

You're certainly right, I hope those folder vendors know what you just said and they use special materials to build their folders.

Thanks,
Miguel

I prefer to put my euro coins into capsules and then keep them in coin box or coin cassette. Coin boxes you can put one on another to have a tower. There are plastic boxes with lids and fancy wooden ones. The plastic boxes you can put into coffers.

For circulating coins , small denominations, used ones there are good coin holders. There are special albums for coin holders but there are boxes for them ,too. This way coins are protected before bad staff.

Coin cards and folders can be kept in special cases, which can be locked.

The commemorative coins in etuis I'm keeping in.......shoe boxes, which still contain silicon bags to keep moisture away.

There are, in my opinion, two companies which can resolves storege problems: Lindner and Leuchtturm, both German. They have they own web sites, where it can be checked full range of their goodies. Attention, both companies have their web sites in English but German ones are better, more items.
You can find good deals for their items on ebay.

Your pocket will help you to make decision what to buy for storing coins.
