Iceland coins design ... how can it be?

The Euro is not just used in the Eurozone. Andorra, Montenegro and Kosovo and a handful of other countries in the world use the Euro as their currency.

Iceland coins design ... how can it be?

Postby Miguel.mateo on 18 Aug 2009, 08:25

There are already rumors on the net about the design of the future Iceland coins. While I am very skeptical about those designs (they contain features that are against the recent recommendations) I wonder at what phase of the euro adoption a country is supposed to choose the design of their coins.

This would answer me why Bulgaria still has not shown a specific design, just a topic so far and almost a year had passed since that topic was selected. This would also answer me why Poland, for example, still donot have even a topic. Can a country choose the design and get it approved by the ECB even before joining the union, like Iceland?

Anyone has an answer to these questions?

Thanks,
Miguel

Once the negotiations with the EU are concluded (in about 3 years time), the citizens will have their final say in a referendum and I am sure it will be difficult one to pass. If they join then they have to wait 2 years in EMRII before ultimately adopt the euro

So any euro designs are for sure premature, some people just speculate on purpose attract collectors to their websites/ forums
