I don't find the new design ugly. I just don't like that they changed it.
Athough, I voted for the "old" one.

I also voted for the old design.

Though it's less neat it far more original. All coins have this star circle and then Germany does something different. I like that.

Sad the EC doesn't not permit the old design.

12 stars in 12 o' clock style symbolise perfection and is taken from the European flag - 12 stars in other positions do not have the same meaning - so it doesn't make sense to put stars or exactly 12 if not in the 12 o' clock position

it is good that now all the countries will comply to the EU Commision guideline on the euro coins

I liked the old design better. The new one is kinda plain. Although I understand that from now on all new euro coin designs will not be able to alter the 12 stars pattern.

The new design is better, the old one was very crowded, but what they should do is offcentre the 12 stars so that the year shall stay together.
