TWA and the Toys for Tots Program

by Fred Ford

The Toys for Tots program is a Marine Corp sponsored program that collects toys all over the country to be given to needy children on Christmas. Triangle Woodworkers participation has been with the Raleigh biased Marine Corp Reserve unit. They collect toys for the surrounding counties.

The late Dan Comeron, a co-founder of TWA, started the TWA Toys for Tots program in 1986. This was also the year in which the first formal president was elected by the club.

Dan with the help of club members were able to get many local merchants to give toys to the program. A few members also made wooden toys for the program.

In 1995 the TWA Toys for Tots program changed to a totally member generated program. Since 1995 members have produced thousands of wooden toys each year for children in need.
