[edit] 24 May 2007

The instructors demonstrated the use of the Writer word processing program, allowing students some keyboard practice before instructing them in inserting accents and special characters, copying, pasting, and basic text formatting. The instructors had to explain the use of the Caps Lock key, Tab key, and Shift keys as well as the Control+ combinations. Some students needed mouse guidance, especially when highlighting text for copying, moving, or formatting. Having a good vocabulary for mouse actions and specially keys was necessary for this lesson.

The instructors had the students transcribe a Wikipedia article on Piedras Negras. Some students were still doing all capital or lower case typing, and some were concerned about precise formatting because they were unaware of how the Centering mode and word wrap functioned. Students also needed a reminder about how to insert special symbols and accents. The group considered having a document that explains the steps for users unfamiliar with the program.
