Albert Bierstadt is a well-known American landscape painter, a
second-generation member of the so-called "Hudson River School" of
19th century. Majority of his work are depicting the grandeur and splendor of
Rocky Mountains. Like the later famous photographer Ansel Adams, they became
known by people for their images on the beautiful Yosemite and Sierra Nevada.
His style is a typical "Luminist", reaching a very high level of
skill and precision in depicting light in the paintings. On the other hand, the
light has been used very appropriately in all situations to present the splendor
of the Nature in the painting, no matter the subject is a grand valley or clouds
before storms. One would feel being at the scene or longing to be overwhelmed by
the landscape when standing in front of his work. The experience would certainly
be very inspirational.
If you have been to Yosemite or Sierra Neveda, Bierstadt's work will
certainly resonate strongly in your heart what you have experienced there
before. The three pieces shown here are pretty typical Bierstadt landscape
paintings.
