According to Jay Barnes, author of North Carolina's Hurricane History (UNC Press, June 1998) and Florida's Hurricane History (UNC Press, October 1998), residents should take hurricane preparedness seriously. Barnes believes that one of the best ways to prepare for hurricanes is to know the history of the volatile storms.
