Budget Advice

The number of squares shown is just an estimate based on the average cost of excavating a single square and the features within it. Squares that contain several large, complex features will cost far more to excavate fully than those that contain no features. Consequently, it is a good idea not to spend all of your project budget on opening squares because you may not have enough money left to excavate all the features that are found within those squares.
