Recent Awards for UNC Press Books

Lawrence Powell's Troubled Memory: Anne Levy, the Holocaust, and David Duke's Louisiana has won the 2000 Lillian Smith Award from the Southern Regional Council. C-span's Book TV was on hand for the November 2000 awards ceremony in Atlanta.

Philip Gura's and James Bollman's America's Instrument: The Banjo in the Nineteenth Century has won a 2000 ASCAP-Deems Taylor Special Citation from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

Michael Kammen's Robert Gwathmey: The Life and Art of a Passionate Observer has won the 1999 Library of Virginia Literary Award for Nonfiction.

Ronald Lewis's Transforming the Appalachian Countryside: Railroads, Deforestation, and Social Change in West Virginia, 1880-1920 has won a 1999 West Virginia Governor's Award.
