Posting images to Wordpress:
Over the years, I have found that an easy way to post images to a blog or to our forums is to upload the image to someplace on the web and then just add it to the blog or forum using a small line of html. The simplest way to do this is to upload the images to an image service, such as photobucket, flickr, or picasa. For this course, I am going to recommend using photobucket:
- Sign up for a photobucket account, if you don't already have one.
- Visit the Photobucket registration page, and follow the on-screen prompts. The free account will handle anything you need for this course. You do not have to use your unc email to register here (in fact, I would advise against using your 'good' email for this registration. If you have a hotmail account or something similar, use that email.) You will need a public account.
- To upload photos to photobucket, on your homepage:
- Select the final photo size that you will want to display on our blog, if you need to reduce the image. This size will probably be either 320 X 240 (Medium) or 640 X 480 (Large). Below is what the same image looks like at the different sizes.
Medium image: '240 X 320'
Large image: 640 X 480 - You will need to open a second browser window, and use that window to login to our Wordpress blog.
- Enter a title for your blog post:

- Next, type your text in the text box. To be honest, I usually type everything first in NotePad (or a similar text-editing program - not Word) and then copy the text and paste it into Wordpress.
- To add a photo, click on the framed rectangle next to upload/insert...

On the From URL tab
copy the direct link code from PhotoBucket and paste it into the Image URL line. If you want to link to a web site, paste the information in here and click Link to image.- Go back to your Photobucket account now and copy the code for the desired image (right-click next to Direct Link and select copy)
- Paste the link into the Wordpress Add Image dialog box. Provide an image title and caption (if desired.) If you want your readers to be able to follow a link from the photo to a web page, insert that URL: in the box next to Link Image To.

- Click Insert Into Post and you will see your new image in your post composition window - see below.

- Saving or publishing your post: You can save your post any time that you want. A saved post is private and will not be visible to the entire world. Click Save Draft or Publish.

- Problems with your post? You can either delete your post and try again, or update (edit) your post.
- Select the final photo size that you will want to display on our blog, if you need to reduce the image. This size will probably be either 320 X 240 (Medium) or 640 X 480 (Large). Below is what the same image looks like at the different sizes.
