Location
of the Theatre
Up
on the Hill and in the Woods
The Forest Theatre is located on the campus of UNC, at
the corner of Cameron Ave/Country Club Rd and Battle Ln/S. Boundary St.
The patron entrance is at the top of the theater. The Forest Theatre is
rustic stone and wood, so bring a blanket or cushion. You're welcome to
come early and bring a picnic if you like.
Basic Directions
From downtown Chapel Hill on Franklin St: Take
Columbia St. into Campus. Turn left onto Cameron Ave. After you pass Raleigh
road, Cameron splits into Battle Ave. and Country Club; the Forest Theatre
is on the land between the two roads.
From I-40: Take exit 273 onto Highway 54 toward Chapel Hill.
Drive approximately 5 miles, then past the intersection with 15-501. Turn
right onto Country Club Rd. Pass the Paul Green Theatre and Cobb hall
on your left, and the Forest Theatre will be immediately to your right.
Please enter at the top of the theatre.
Parking
Please do not park in the lot immediately behind the Forest
Theatre. This space is reserved for actors (and handicap access, just
check with the parking monitor). Street parking should be free and
legal during most evening and weekend hours ... but check the message
on the meter anyway, just to make sure. Your best option is the Park Place
lot, located on S. Boundary St. just beyond the Forest Theatre. You can
also park in the planetarium lot on Franklin Street and walk through the
arboretum to reach the Forest Theatrr. Also, some nearby parking can sometimes
be found on campus around Playmaker's Theatre and Cobb dorm... but don't
count on it.
Even more detailed
directions (Map
centered on the Forest Theatre)
The festival is now, as it always has been, at its historical
location at the Forest Theatre on the UNC-Chapel Hill Campus.
To get there from I-40, Take exit 273 onto Highway 54 toward
Chapel Hill. Drive approximately 5 miles. You will pass Meadowmont on
your right and the William Friday Center on your left. You will drive
past the Glen Lennox shopping center and then under the 15-501 overpass.
After the 15-501 overpass,
the next stoplight you'll come to on 54 is the Cameron Ave/Country Club
Rd intersection, onto which you'll turn right. Almost immediately, you'll
pass Playmakers Theatre on the left, and a few dozen feet further down,
on the right, is the Forest Theatre - your destination! Too bad you can't
park here. To park, take the first right past the forest theatre onto
Battle Ln then an immediate right onto S. Boundary St. You'll see a tiny
dirt parking lot behind the theatre, which should be full of actors' cars
(do not park there!). Pass this, and park in the nice paved lot
(called Park Place) a few hundred feet further down, around a small bend
in the road, on the right. It's just a stone's throw from the theatre,
really. There should be signs, too, for "Festival Parking", and helpful
ushers to guide you to the quaint wooded path that goes up the small hill
to the main theatre entrance.
