Percy

Ted Atkinson (tbatkinson@WORLDNET.ATT.NET)

My name is Ted Atkinson, and I have been a Percy devotee
for about four years now. Four years ago, I was in a real funk; then, I
read THE MOVIEGOER after a suggestion by a good friend. It was both
powerful and eerie how much I identified with Binx Bolling. After the book,
I was, like Binx, open to the possibility of a search, one which thankfully
continues (thankfully, since the alternative is to be "dead, dead, dead," as
Binx says). Recently, I completed a master's thesis, examining negative
theology in LANCELOT and comparing the narrative strategy of the novel to
that of the SPIRITUAL EXERCISES of St. Ignatius. I am thinking about
applying for admission to a Ph.D. program, because I want to work on a study
of Percy and O'Connor in the context of changes in the Catholic Church as a
result of Vatican II. Good times are ahead for Percy (and O'Connor
scholars) with upcoming biographies and the collection of Percy's and
Foote's letters, all of these adding to the volume of work already out
there.
