I just noticed a review of "The Metaphysical Club : a Story of Ideas in
America", by Louis Menand, which sounds like it may be of some interest
to Percyphiles who are also interested in Charles Sanders Peirce.
Peirce is one of four prominent post-Civil War thinkers who are linked
and discussed in the book, the others being Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.,
William James, and John Dewey. It's gotten generally positive reviews
from National Review, Publisher's Weekly, Booklist, and Library Journal,
for what it's worth. I'd be curious to know if anyone on the list has
read it, and if so, what they thought about it.
