If you are referring to my posting, all I was trying to say was that Percy
makes references to the Jews in MG, but after that (at least I don't
recall) any reference to the Jews as a "sign." What I was attempting to
say in a quick, off-hand (and not well thought out) way was that he
didn't rely on one particular sign as a reference to God, but (as you
might have said) sees God in the everyday occurences. And "the sign" is
just that: what's under our nose everyday.

Again, I don't claim this to be revelatory or even true; it was just a
quick response as the thought came to me. Unfortunately, the semester has
arrived and I'm buried in trying to put together a course that I was asked
to teach last week and have never taught before. So forgive me for not
being too precise or even clear, but I'm really pressed right now. Don't
think much about the posting (obviously I didn't).
