Thanks Chad. Had some real second thoughts after I sent it. Along
the lines of, "Oh Lord Petter, why did you do that? Couldn't you
have edited it a bit?" But no I couldn't or rather, no I didn't.

Oh by the way, I corrected the spelling in the subject line. Yeah
Petter.

When I saw that courageous "Better than Monday Morning" post, I
felt almost compelled to reply, because, the subject was so
Percian, it so perfectly named my experience and I had to either
share it, remain forever quiet or die (metaphorically).

The reason I subscribe to this List, and it's the only list I
subscribe to, aside from another Percy list on Yahoo (which is
totally dead most of the time), is that Walker Percy is one of the
seminal influences on my life. In my eyes he truly is a
"diagnostician" of the age, and my Percy, the Percy of _Lost in
the Cosmos_ , _Stranger in a Strange Land_ just nails it and, more
importantly, nails me.

My four influences (ala High Fidelity):

Walker Percy
Lenny Bruce
Michael Foucault
Jesus Christ.

Walker Percy for diagnosing my illness.
Lenny Bruce for reminding me that everybody's in show biz.
Michael Foucault for describing the workings of the social
landscape.
Jesus Christ for going there before me and teaching me there's no
easy way out.

God it's been a hard week. Nausea, weariness, self loathing.
Time to get back to church. It's been too long.

Make myself another drink too. What the hell, it's Friday night.

Petter
