Homunculus

As a new member of the Percy list, I would like to ask if one of the
better versed members knows offhand where Percy, in discussing the
problems inherent in explanations of consciousness, remarked that
reductive explanations which deny the "I" or soul reduce the explainer to
claims of a homunculus or homunculi as the agent(s) of consciousness.
If I remember correctly, in the NYTBR review of Daniel Dennett's
Consciousness Explained, this very thesis was put forth. I remember
thinking at the time that Percy's essay was the perfect antidote for
Dennett, but having now leafed through all of the nonfiction works, I
haven't been able to turn it up.
Thanks for any assistance.
