I have been on the list for a while but I have not had time to make a
proper introduction. I am a senior at the University of the South in
Sewanee, Tennessee, and a huge fan of Percy's writings. I have a special
place for Percy in my heart since I grew up in Birmingham, attended the
same high school as he did (Altamont School, formerly Birmingham University
School), and now live in one of his favorite places. I go into Lost Cove
all the time, and I've actually ventured into the cave once. (I didn't take
any pills with me.)
My favorite of Percy's writings is definitely "The Second Coming,"
though there isn't a book of his that I haven't liked. I've read almost all
of them, though I haven't gotten around to "Lancelot" or "The Thanatos
Syndrome" yet. I've found his nonfiction to be just as engaging as his
fiction. My regret is that I came along just a little too late to meet him
in person.
