A few observations re 'Orthodox' Catholisism (sic) Flannery
O'Connor's Catholisism cannot be questioned--she, by her own
admission could not spell and would probably have felt she was as
orthodox in her catholisism as anyone! <G> Just Kidding!!

In the only sense of the word Orthodox that truly matters, Percy
and O'Connor were Orthodox. Both partook of the sacraments. Both
acknowledged the universal jurisdiction of the Roman See. Both
affirmed all of the beliefs central to Roman Catholicism, including
the doctrines defining Mary's relationship to Christ's work of
universal salvation.

Repeatedly in their literary works and in their essays and letters
both defended the faith to the best of their ability. As
apologists, both endeavored in different ways to address the
deism/secularism of American culture and both endeavored with
different strategies to show why the Catholic faith is true and
worthy of acceptance. They were, I think, more Catholic than the
Pope! Having Questions or Doubts in no way disqualifies one as a
Roman Catholic. If it did, Thomas himself would be heterodox! <G>
