The first good news is that Percy-L is now 110 members strong after six
months of operation. Many thanks to Donavan Hall for keeping the list
moving forward. It will be interesting to see how quickly that number
might double again. Stay tuned here for future announcements about new
web-interface based conferencing technologies now in preparation in the
Percy Project.
The second good news is that the plans for the 97 WP Symposium are now set.
Below you will find the details. Louisina is lovely that time of year,
and this particular symposium promises to be a good one, as I am sure you
will see below.

This year's program, free and open to the public, promises to be one of the
best. We have three outstanding speakers well-versed in Walker Percy's
life and work. John Desmond, President and Co-founder of the Walker Percy
Society will deliver a paper entitled "The Fragile Hope: Walker Percy's
Search for Community"; Jay Tolson, author of Pilgrim in the Ruins: A Life
of Walker Percy and editor of The Correspondence of Shelby Foote and Walker
Percy will give a paper called "A Literary Friendship: Walker Percy and
Shelby Foote"; and Patrick Samway, S.J., editor of Signposts in a Strange
Land and author of the forthcoming biography Walker Percy: A Life will
present "Facts and Fiction: Writing a Biography of Walker Percy." There
will be time for questions after the program.
