_Confederacy of Dunces_ is a brilliant novel. My sides ached from reading
it, too. I agree with Percy's remark in the introduction that the humor of
the novel is tinged with sadness and regret over a body of work denied to
us. Where do people like Toole come from? He had amazing powers as a
novelist but no doubt horrible problems with re-entry.
