The Fr. Smith "sermon" in TS reminds me of Mark Twain's stranger speaks in
the "War Prayer" and everyone concludes that he must be nuts. The good
padre is anything but nuts; he speaks very clearly of our social
conditions. My vision of Fyodor's observation; Percy does have indirect
communication but it is by means of a direct hit on the head. He is
capable of articulating exactly what he wants to say with just enough
ambiguity to cause thought within his readers; what else should a prophet
do?
