Donovan is quite right to point out that I meant to stimulate public
discussion online. No member of the list has replied to me as a single
addressee as of this date; none should. We're in this together, right?

Most replies display studied insouciance about the prize and a similar
attitude toward my concern about the supposition that Dr. Tom More read all
Walker Percy's books and essays as well as all the books Walker Percy
Read. I guess everyone on the list but me is already a "Moviegoer"?

I guess that's what happens when a novelist who's a would be psychiatrist
writes a novel about a psychiatrist which has the misfortune to be read by
a would-be philosopher of psychiatry trained by James D. Collins to read
history of philosophy. Confusion all around!

Anything submitted to the list on the topic (what did Tom More think Fr.
Smith meant by "tenderness leads to the gas chambers!") is eligible for the
prize (membership at Moviegoer level in Friends of the Walker Percy
Project). No entry by any relative of mine will be considered. My
decision will be purely arbitary and final. The check will be
forwarded to Henry P. Mills, Director THE WALKER PERCY EDUCATIONAL
PROJECT, INC.
P.O. Box 3561 Austin, TX 78764 not later than Friday, May 2, 1997.

My decision will probably be protested and contested in the courts, but
the donation will under no circumstances be deferred.
