I've seen both versions (in fact the director's cut is the only version
I've seen on the wide screen) and I don't read it that way. In fact,
I was looking for it because a number of critics who suggested Deckard
was a replicant for years used that version of the film to support
their case and when I finally saw it I just didn't understand what the big
deal was. There's no monumental block of evidence in it. The unicorn
sequence was already mirrored in the original theatrical release; Gaf
drops an origami unicorn on the floor for Deckard to find. While both
films are good, I tend to prefer the original with the voice over.
In any case, it's fairly certain in the Dick work that Deckard isn't a
replicant; but then again, the replicants therein aren't terribly human
either.
I simply think Deckard's redemption works better if he's not a replicant;
he has farther to go in the journey.
