Hello all.
I have a week's time to write a research paper
on Percy's 'The Second Coming.'
Oh my, using this listserv as a means for gathering information. . .

In the novel, Will and Allie are what we would label as somewhat mad.
They are called insane because they do not fit into patterned behavior of
society. They are displaced in time (both have memory problems and
constant flashbacks), conversation/human interaction (they find other's
words to be trite or in sincere), and family (Will as a father and Allie
as a daughter are estranged even from their own blood). Am a missing
elements of these characters that keep them from being "normal?"
I am also interested in the notion that "the world is in fact farcical"
(4). Is madness the only way people whip off the mask of this role-playing
farcical society? Oh dear. . .

If anyone has time, energy, and useful information,
I would be most grateful to read comments on anything I have mentioned.
Point me to passages?
Suggest supplemental readings?
Tell me my idea has major flaws?
Anything will be helpful. Thank you.
