Dear Bryon:
Perhaps someone has already answered this question (I haven't been keeping up on the conversation), but Ray Monk's *Ludwig Wittgenstein: The Duty of Genius* (Penguin, 1990) is excellent. It is simply one of the finest intellectual biographies I've ever read. The book is not only a careful and clear introduction to the life and thought of Wittgenstein, suitable for those with little or no background in LW, but also a thick, rich presentation of his life, drawn from letters, memoirs, and published accounts, helpful also to seasoned scholars in the field. For those interested in Wittgenstein and the intellectual story of the twentieth century, it will be a delight.
Grace and peace,
--Scott Moore
