a quick one cent worth. i always hear Percy's "angelism" cashed out in terms
regarding "intellectual", "scientific", "rational" and even "artistic"
detachemnt from the real world. Now, while i do think Percy thins about
angelism in this way (and i think many in my field of professional philosophy
got a bad case of it), i want to point out that angelism can be much more
ho-hum and everyday. The most bestial and common of folk can fall into it
when we simply view the world through set ideas, be they romantic or what
not, and fail to deal with the world and others as they really are. For eg.,
i often screw up my relation to my wife when i relates to her through some
ideal of what i think a wife should be like... What i like about Percy is
that he cathes acedemics and everyday folk alike in his understanding of it.
Just think about how hes onto the way people relate to others via steroetypes
they've learned through the movies to take but one example.

just a thought...
