About Me

I am a freelance web developer, writer, and editor, all roles that I enjoy for the flexibility and creativity they provide. Practical issues of communication have long fascinated me, and I appreciate being able to help others create and employ clear, effective communication in support of their work or project goals in each of these areas.

I appreciate being able to help others create and employ clear, effective communication in support of their work or project goals.

My Interests

I pursue website work not only because I enjoy using both sides of my brain, both the creative and analytical, but also because I like the continual learning of new technologies and programming approaches that the field of web development involves.

In turn, on the communication side, I enjoy writing and research, knowledge creation, and interactive presentation because they give me the opportunity to synthesize new ideas and concepts and express them in novel, precise ways for the benefit of others.

I pride myself on the communication and interpersonal skills, high standards and attention to detail, and comprehensive project vision I bring to developing information resources and to crafting message delivery, whether for the web or in print.

Background

My educational background is in literary studies and writing, and I have a Master's degree in English from Louisiana State University. I also hold a Webmaster Certificate from Austin Community College. Both provide a unique, specialized combination of information delivery skills.

In addition, I have employed project management and program development skills with a variety of projects and organizations to the present, including the EnterTech Project, El Buen Samaritano, and Humanities Texas. These experiences have enabled me to understand the dynamics of collaborative, wide-scale project management as well as focused, outcome-based program development as part of an integrated organizational plan.

I have also been involved in organizational development projects for both non-profit and university organizations, including The University of Texas Humanities Institute and The Walker Percy Project, an Internet-based non-profit I founded. Development areas I have worked in include strategic vision, identity formation, comprehensive program development and marketing, and fundraising. My work with developing an online store for Highland Coffees also falls in this category of development experience.

In all my projects and collaborations, my foremost aim is to help partners and clients reach their communication goals while facilitating their collaboration.

Personal

I value depth, competency, and quality over superficial or hasty outcomes. I am always curious to learn new things about the world and myself, and I work hard to understand and relate to others in an honest, sincere, and supportive manner.

Among the personal activities I enjoy the most I would include at the top swimming, park walks, healthy eating, church activities, and meeting friends at Mozart's Coffee on Lake Austin. I also enjoy the periodic choral or orchestral concert.
