The Eudora Welty Writers, Mississippi ChapterSelf-described as "a non-profit organization to Nurture and Develop writers," this open writing group, primarly serving the Jackson community, hosts activities directed at encouraging and supporting writers and their writings. In addition to regularly scheduled meetings, the group also hosts writing contests and Saturday writing workshops. Periodically, the meetings focus on special guest speakers.In May of 1997 the group distributed their first newlsletter "Journal Clippings," which reports current news to the members. The group was formerly known as the Mississippi Writers Association. Recently, they regrouped as the Eudora Welty Writer'- Mississippi Chapter under the auspices of the umbrella organization, the Eudora Welty Birthplace foundation. The Eudora Welty Writers Group participates in the Eudora Welty Festival, which is also supported by the Birthplace Foundation. In time, the group will meet at the Writers Center of the Eudora Welty Birthplace Foundation. Standard membership dues are $30.Registration fees for workshops and festivals vary.
