Many people consider Historian John Hope Franklin to be the pre-eminent authority on African American History. His book “From Slavery to Freedom” is one of the definitive works on the black experience. Over the decades, Franklin has made the journey from historian to history-maker in his own right. Franklin turned 90-years-old this month. Even though he preferred to celebrate in private with his family – scholars and friends from across the country insisted on a more public display of their adoration.
