Diary of a Katrina Volunteer

The effects of Hurricane Katrina still are reverberating across the country. Concerned citizens have donated food, clothing, and money to those affected by the hurricane\’s wrath. And then there were those people who wanted to do more than just write a check to the Red Cross. They wanted to see the devestation for themselves. They wanted to help out in a more up close and personal way. Leoneda Inge has the story of a Durham woman who heeded that call.

Note: This story won first place in the general news category of the Radio Television News Directors Association contest. It also won third place for hurricane coverage in the National Headliner Awards. It also won second place in the feature reporting category of the Society of Professional Journalists – Green Eyeshade Awards.
