Holy Texts in Court

A Wake County Superior Court judge has thrown out a legal challenge against North Carolina’s courtroom oath statute. The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina filed the suit saying the statute violates the constitutional provision against favoring one religion over another. It comes down to whether or not the term “holy scriptures” can mean more than just the Christian Bible. But the judge’s procedural ruling stopped the main bout before it even got started.
