Shinemaster

Host Frank Stasio speaks with Michael McFee, poet and professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the author of seven books of poetry. The newest is titled “Shiinemaster” (Carnegie Mellon University Press/2006). McFee was born and raised in Asheville and, except for brief stints in New York, has consistently lived and taught in North Carolina. (20:00)

State of the City

Durham Mayor Bill Bell delivered his State of the City address last night. The speech comes after a particularly violent period in the city. In November, four young men were killed in a Durham townhouse, followed by shootings at a mall and on a public bus. Host Frank Stasio talks with the mayor about his plans to combat the problem of violence, which include creating mentoring and drug treatment programs, cracking down on gun violence, and providing more economic opportunities for young African-American men.
