Our Separate Ways

In the 1950’s and 1960’s, Durham, North Carolina — like much of the south — simmered with racial unrest. Change came thanks to behind-the-scenes work of many people, especially women whose contributions have been largely ignored. Host Frank Stasio leads a conversation about the role of women in the black freedom movement in Durham with Christian Greene, assistant professor of history in the department of African-American studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and author of “Separate Ways: Women and the Black Freedom Movement in Durham, North Carolina” (UNC Press/2005).
