Thursday Night Feature
Thursdays 9pm-midnight
WXYC DJs explore a topic of their choice for three hours.
Reminisce about these past shows:
March 1, 2007 - David Lynch
This week's Thursday Night Feature softly falls into the netherworld of David Lynch. Listen for music from his films as performed by Roy Orbison, Julee Cruise, and David Bowie, works Lynch composed solo or in tandem with Eraserhead, and the trippy, pseudo-lounge of Angelo Badalamenti that permeated Lynch's 90s-era filmography. DJs Tess and Morgan bring you reverb guitar, jazz from another place, erasernoise, dark ambience, and 50s pop for three bluer-than-velvet hours.
February 22, 2007 - Gerald Levert
Rounding out WXYC's celebration of Black History Month, the Thursday Night Feature delves into the smooth sounds of the late singer, songwriter, arranger and producer Gerald Levert, who preserved the old-fashioned R&B slow-jam in the urban Cleveland tradition long past the days of his father's O'Jays. Levert recorded solo as well as in collaboration with friends and family, most notably in his early days with the trio LeVert and more recently as a member of LSG alongside Johnny Gill and Keith Sweat. Duets with his father, Eddie Levert, highlight Gerald's roots as well as his contributions as a rhythm and blues legacy. Levert's accidental death in November 2006 surprised and saddened his fans, who eagerly anticipated the release of his newly completed album, In My Songs, as well as many more years of impassioned artistry. WXYC dj Nancia Odom hosts three hours of Levert's soul-filled R&B groove.
February 15, 2007 - 5th Annual Carolina Soul Feature
The second of three Thursday Night Features celebrating Black History Month. Former WXYC station manager Jason Perlmutter spins three hours of little-heard 45-rpm records made by North and South Carolina soul musicians of the 1960s through 1980s and relates group history gathered from extensive interviews and research. The show is Perlmutter's fifth TNF on the topic of Carolina Soul in as many years, and he debuts many records that have not been previously broadcast on WXYC. February 8, 2007 - Alice Coltrane
WXYC brings you the first of three features in celebration of Black History Month.

While we strive to provide a diverse listening experience throughout the year, these February shows have special components focused on illuminating the historical context of the talented artists' contributions. Host Kevin Clark presents a retrospective on the works of the late Alice Coltrane, preeminent jazz harpist of the late 20th century whose sources of artistic influence range from Vedic scriptures and Egyptian mythology to spirituals and traditional jazz and blues.
B
Her sound unites and transcends these influences through audio journeys that evoke what is sacred.
