Was There Ever Such a Day
Was there ever such a day?
Mother was sitting on the green grass
knitting a stocking.
Birds were flying over
our humble roof.
The water was waiting in the pitcher,
cold, green.
In the garden of our neighbor
the apples were ripening.
In the window
a bee was buzzing
and buzzing.
Oh, where is the cloud on which I was riding,
swinging with my joyful knees.
