A prayer
for sisterhood
God who lives among us: sister,
Let us pray to you, for you lead us every
new day.
May we live each day to our full potential.
We ask you. God, to keep and care for
sisters around us:
We pray for improvement in conditions for
working class women in
our societies: their
burdens are double because of responsibilities at
work and at home — yet
their contributions are made trivial.
We reflect on how much the stereotyped
roles in our cultures have
constrained us.
Let us not forget all the women who, in the
past and now, have spent
their lives at home,
supporting families, at the expense of their own
development. ...
We pray for women who are exploited as
prostitutes, or in pornography
and advertisements.
We remember the prices they have paid. Be with them, Lord, when
they are desperate.
Finally, we pray for women who are willing
to fight their way through
whatever circumstances they are in — no matter how much they are
constrained by tradition, economic structures, or political repression;
Give them the strength and the courage to
continue their struggle for
equality and dignity among
women and men.
May your wisdom and power be with them always.
Amen.
