"'curator' may work better for a museum. 'archivist' would be appropriate
for
a historic society." I work in the library and archives of a museum, and my
title is "Curator of Research and Archives." We also have a "Curator of Music
and Popular Culture" and a "Curator of Education." For us, the semantics bring
us more in line with traditional museum job titles and offer a little more clout
than "Librarian/Archivist" and "Educator." Since "curator" is Latin for
"overseer," and that's what each of us is, the titles make sense.
Just my two cents.
