I'll raise that one, try a 4 day trip in a Volvo 240 with 3 dogs, two cats,
two children and an adult who doesn't drive. Yup my loving wife did this
drive from Houston to Richmond.

As I pointed out earlier, relocating to a new job involves a variety of
factors that only the individual can answer. I'm not sure commitment to the
profession is one of the reasons unless it would be for a truly intriguing
exciting position.

Someone wrote earlier about not receiving interviews from a given
geographical area. This happens all the time. Most firms will not consider
someone from outside a given area unless the respondents credentials are
outstanding ie much better, head-n-shoulders higher than the other
applicants. The other thing to remember is that networking is one of the key
items in getting a new position. If you know someone in a given area ask
them for leads or introductions, ask them if they know someone at the
institution to which you are applying.

IN this day and age job hunting is very competitive and you need to
distinguish yourself from the field.
